Comfort is essential specially for a nursing mommy dog. There are some instances when an improper nursing position could lead to a mother suffocating her own pup. I’ve seen one pup die from that which then made the mother eat it. It was an unfortunate circumstance that could have been prevented with a matting to provide comfort for the puppies and the mother.
