Are Mobility Scooter Batteries Rechargeable?

My neighbor is considering purchasing a mobility scooter for his wife. He was asking me a few days ago if the mobility scooter batteries are rechargeable or if you have to keep buying new batteries every so often? I honestly do not know the answer to this and have not been able to find out when researching this on the Internet. it would seem to me that these types of batteries would either be rechargeable or last a lot longer than other smaller batteries. I would love to find out this information for my neighbor because I think a mobility scooter would definitely make a huge difference in he and his wife’s quality of life.
