The first time that I stepped out of Penn Station in New York was exhilarating. I felt like Cinderella finally meeting her prince. Why? It is because I was finally there – a city that promises lots of Voice Over Jobs for me. Aside from that, I was also half-wishing that some movie director who would be filming a great movie in New York would see me and recognize my acting talents. (This is just a dream, I know it won’t happen in reality…. But, who knows?) So anyway, after two weeks, I got a call from a talent agent and said that he has found a voice over project for me.

The Challenge: Why Students Just Don’t Want To Practice.

I see a lot of students, and not just the young ones, having this same problem. Students that are investing their own time and money, coming to me week after week, explaining how they didn’t have enough time to practice properly, if at all.  I can’t speak for everyone because I don’t know exactly what goes through someone elses head once they leave their weekly lesson. I can only speak for myself and try to explain how I always thought about practicing. drum workout First of all, for me practicing was never really a chore. It was something I always enjoyed. I wasn’t as talented as some other students that I’ve seen over the years, but every time I came home from a lesson I felt like I was handed a new piece of “magic” that I could work on, develop, and call my own. Unfortunately, when I started teaching I realized

My father was a math teacher for 30 years and I’m sure he hated grading his tests and making up his lesson plans at home as much as his students hated doing them… The point is, even know homework is necessary, good for you and good for your mind… it’s still work that’s taking a person away from something else that they’d rather be doing right then and there.  Most people focus on what’s real in the moment.
